Cook with style and heart using our new Olive Wood Kitchen Collection! Pairing two favorite Vitality™ oils with an olive-wood cutting board handcrafted by artisans in Bethlehem, this unique collection will flavor both your food and your conversation as you share the story of the cutting board’s origins. Proceeds from the cutting board are donated directly to the Young Living Foundation to champion education, develop enterprise, and end exploitation. Women of the Holy Land Handicrafts Cooperative in Bethlehem handcrafted these rich, exquisite cutting boards. The boards are made using only pruned olive tree branches from trees up to 2,000 years old, preserving the trees themselves. Both the cutting boards and the women of the cooperative have long endured the strife of their native land and the deprivations caused by recent global shutdowns. Over the last year, many artisan groups have closed due to the lack of tourism, and Young Living’s order of cutting boards has been described by the artisans as “blessed.” More than 10 workshops reopened to create these beautiful pieces, reviving the area and its artisans. Creating and selling unique olive-wood products enables these families to earn a living and provide opportunities for their children. Olive Wood Kitchen Collection Product Information Page

PRODUCT BACKGROUND
Layla, one of the Holy Land Handicrafts artisans, runs a small workshop and has been able to reopen her doors and pay her employees again with orders from Young Living. “The payment for this order was the only income that we have had after last year’s global shutdowns, which forced us to stop working. We understand, more than ever, the value of being able to work and provide. I am happy that our employees and their families are supported as well.” The Young Living Foundation works with women-led artisan groups across the globe, including artisans who have experienced extreme poverty, disability, displacement, trauma, exploitation, or violence. The Foundation is committed to helping these resilient women build strong and sustainable enterprises that will lead to more income-generating opportunities. With fair and consistent pay, our partner artisans are better able to support their own needs, as well as the needs of their children and families. Suggested Uses

Instructions for properly cleaning and maintaining your cutting board:
  • After you’re done slicing and dicing your meat or veggies, take the cutting board to the sink and wash it down with hot water and soap. Dry it immediately and stand it up so that air can circulate on all sides. Alternatively, you can use lemon, salt, vinegar, baking soda, and water to clean the cutting board. Hard stains: To remove stubborn stains, just sprinkle baking soda on the surface of the cutting board, then work it into the surface stains with a lemon or a gentle sponge or washcloth. Rinse the board and dry it with a towel. Revitalize: If your cutting board gets a lot of use and washing, it can start to look dull and dried out. Replenish the wood using mineral oil—just apply a small amount with a very slightly damp rag. Caution: Don’t ever soak a wooden cutting board in water or put it in the dishwasher! It can cause it to warp, split, and/or crack.

Q: Is the cutting board one solid piece of wood?

A: We work with olive wood crafters in the West Bank who only use wood from tree branches that have been pruned or have died, and thus, no trees were cut down to create these cutting boards. Thus, some of the olive wood used in may be from trees centuries old. Due to this no-harm method of harvesting, each board is made up of two pieces of olive wood carefully joined together to form a household accessory that will last through years of use.
