Hi friends!
Kirista here coming at you with an interview from one of our long-time members, Julie Callis! She is a Platinum with Young Living and has been able to travel extensively to various farms, locations and trips because of her hard work with her team! Let’s hear more from Julie – and continue to join us for more Meet the Members!
Hi Julie thank you so much for joining us we are so excited to share your journey and wisdom with our readers, can you please share with us a little about yourself?
Heyyyyy!! I’m Julie Callis, and I’m about to celebrate my 5th anniversary with Young Living!
I live in Knoxville TN (home of the super weird huge gold ball) with my husband of almost 14 years (Kevin) & my kiddos Harper (7) & Cullen (4). I joined YL for the OILS alone, and quickly found myself in a community of like-minded people — all of us looking at each other with wide eyes like “WHERE HAVE THESE OILS BEEN OUR WHOLE LIVES?!?” My excitement about finding natural products quickly turned into a passion, which then became a crazy fun business.
What do you attribute your success to with Young Living?
I can attribute success in my business to consistency. Anyone who knows me will probably roll their eyes at that answer because I say it all the time, but it’s still paying off 5 years later to show up every single day. There are still people joining our team today because they’ve been watching for the past 5 years. I don’t have any secret to success except that being authentically me + showing up every day will pay off. The only way I’ll surely fail is if I don’t show up, so I keep showing up!
How do you tackle IPA’s?
Early on, my biggest struggle was the comparison game. I’m not a high enroller, I don’t have a big social media following, I don’t do big fancy giveaways, & I felt like my ideas weren’t measuring up to others’ ideas… I was working really hard to rank Gold & saw “everyone” ranking up higher than me (not true, but it felt like it). So there was a turning point where I began to dig deep and engage with my team. I worked on building one-on-one relationships in my smaller legs and found incredible people who wanted to build their own businesses. I saw that the value wasn’t in being a top enroller or having a post go viral, but in seeing the light bulb go off for someone who caught the vision for the first time. THAT is what I chase now, not the sparkly recognition (although I’m an enneagram 3, and recognition is my love language!).
What has been something that you have really had to push through to accomplish?
My biggest failure in this business is that I set my eyes on Silver at first (because it’s all I thought I was capable of achieving)… So I made a lot of really dumb decisions early on. Every time I start to feel bitterness creep in about those decisions, I just pray that the Lord will continue to redeem my short-sightedness. I haven’t completely overcome it, but I have built new legs from scratch & found some incredible new business builders in the process. It’s a daily decision to set my eyes on the future & not look back on my mistakes.
What are some of your fave books and why?
These are a few of my favorite business & leadership books::
+ Start with Why by Simon Sinek – this one really showed me how people are motivated and what it takes to capture their attention & loyalty. It’s a must-read!
+ The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell – Every chapter was a “mic drop” moment for me, and I love that John Maxwell helps you measure your leadership skills & determine where hard work is necessary.
+ High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard – Whoa. This one had some gut punches. It challenged me to break free from laziness and push through when it gets hard. It also helped me call out some of the reasons that I haven’t been pushing through my excuses. GOOD STUFF.
What is the greatest piece of advice you have ever received?
The greatest piece of business advice I’ve received is that you just NEVER know who will be successful in this business. There is NO way to predict it because ANYONE can succeed in this business! I hear stories of popular diamond leaders who went years before starting their businesses & even let their accounts go inactive. Because of those stories, I love on every single member that I can & encourage them like crazy! Our team’s first Diamond could be someone who first enrolled 15 years ago or someone who enrolls tomorrow. No one is written off or counted as lost in my eyes!
What is your fave oil? And what is your favourite oil recipe?
My favorite oil is Joy. I put a drop over my heart every morning to remind myself that the Joy of the Lord is my strength & that I need to begin with JOY every day!
My diffuser has Lemon + Thieves in it right now. We need ALL the immune boosting oils to stay healthy this fall! Mama doesn’t have time for sickness!
My favorite oily recipe is my skin serum. It’s 1 oz jojoba oil + 10 drops Frankincense, 10 drops Cypress, & 3 drops Rose. It’s great for youthful skin & all of those oils are also incredible for emotional balance. My husband & I both use it every night.
How does EOL help your business?
EOL is such a gift to me! Karin & Dan have created a tool that helps me do what I’m good at without spending time stressing over creating a beautiful site that is WAY outside of my gifting! I love that I can help people get the info they need by just sending them over to my Oily Life site! I especially love sending people to the pages that show each starter kit – what a beautiful way to see what’s in each kit!!
