It’s Time for part 2 of our Social Media series with:
Optimizing Your Instagram Profile
What is a Hashtag #
Think of hashtags like keywords, they are searchable terms that people can find your post under. For example if you have the #younglivingoils every person who used the hashtag will be under that search term. The cool thing about hashtags is that the more your post is seen and engaged with the higher you’ll show up in the feed. Allowing you to get in front of more people. You need to make sure you’re getting found by the right audience, so using the right keywords is really important. Your posts are not just for your followers but also for reaching a larger following. Remember in the last post I talked about Finding your Why + finding your Who + being you! Once you have that, it will help you in your Hashtag research.
Now when finding your hashtags there are apps you can use but I actually don’t like them, and find this far more efficient. So what I do is go into the search section on instagram and start typing in a search term like #essentialoils what comes up is multiple hashtags under that term and the number of posts there are for it. This is great because now you can start finding which hashtags are right for your business.
Hashtag Formula
Now that you know how to start finding them your going to go into your notes folder on your phone and create 3-5 categories. (Ex- Posts about me, Diffuser oils, Tips & tricks ect.) Instagram does not like when you use the same hashtags over and over again, or when you use more than 25. They will flag you as SPAM and not show your posts, so this insures that won’t happen. Now as you start building each category follow the formula above. This will give you lots of variety, and make sure you’re not getting lost in posts that have over a million. Then all you need to do is copy & paste it into your post and Voila you’ve attacked the hashtags.
